JAKARTA (January 29th, 2024) - The participants of Nusantara Economic Hero (PENA) Workshop were happy as this activity had many benefits. Besides increasing skills, participants' insights were also broadened.

Nusantara Economic Hero (PENA) Workshop was held for three days from 26 to 28 January 2024. This activity carried out the theme “Training to Strengthen the Empowerment of Beneficiary Family (KPM) PENA Graduates and Training to Strengthen the Capacity of PENA Social Companions”.

Participants could take part in various training, such as culinary, handicrafts, digital marketing, financial literacy, photography and videography, simple research, as well as product branding and packaging. The training took place from 08.00 to 16.00 WIB.

PENA Workshop was attended by 303 social companions consisting of Family Hope Program (PKH) Companions, Social Companions and District Social Welfare Workers (TKSK), 179 residents of “Mulya Jaya” Center in Jakarta and 64 KPM Graduates.

One of the participants, Yeni Handayani (43), was a resident of “Mulya Jaya” Flats in Jakarta. She was a beneficiary of Family Hope Program (PKH) and Non-Cash Food Assistance (BPNT). She said that she gained a lot of experience and knowledge from PENA Workshop. After attending the workshop, she wanted to open a culinary business around where she lived.

This woman from Sukabumi had been living in Jakarta for 11 years. Since 10 months ago, she had been living in “Mulya Jaya” Flats in Jakarta and was trusted to be the representative of the association in the flat. Previously, Yeni lived from one place to another.

Yeni once received an offer to sell at ATENSI Creation Center (SKA) and attended various training sessions at “Mulya Jaya” Center in Jakarta. However, as Yeni could not leave her job, the offer was not taken up. Then, Yeni met a Social Worker of “Mulya Jaya” Center in Jakarta and was offered to live in a flat at a cost of IDR 10,000 per month.

Yeni, a mother of five children, was a masseuse who worked using an online application. She earned around IDR 1 million per week from her online massage services. Before pursuing this massage service, she once worked as an employee, washing and food seller. While waiting for massage orders, Yeni also tried making uduk rice and rissole to sell around the flat at a price of IDR 7,000 per pack.

Yeni liked cooking. At the workshop, she chose to take the culinary class. In this class, she was taught to make various types of contemporary foods and drinks that were currently viral, such as Cromboloni, Smoothies, and other preparations made from chocolate.

After attending the workshop, Yeni dreamed of opening a culinary business, besides her massage service. She hoped that her economy could improve after opening a culinary business. "Thank you, Ministry of Social Affairs, for giving my family and I the opportunity to occupy this flat," she said.
