PANDEGLANG (December 6, 2024) - Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) went directly to the flood-affected areas in Pandeglang Regency to ensure that logistical assistance was distributed properly and to initiate strategic steps related to the empowerment program for social assistance recipients. Using a rubber boat, Gus Ipul along with a team from the Ministry of Social Affairs and various local parties has distributed aid to residents affected by the flood since Tuesday (3/12/2024).

The Ministry of Social Affairs operates public kitchens in four affected sub-districts, namely Pagelaran, Cikeusik, Sindangresmi, and Patia, and distributes aid worth IDR 495.3 million. The aid includes ready-to-eat food, mattresses, blankets, children's food packages, and portable tents. Gus Ipul praised the solidarity of residents and officers in dealing with the disaster, emphasizing that synergy like this is a major asset in handling the crisis.

On the sidelines of handling the flood, Gus Ipul also discussed the strategy to accelerate the graduation of social assistance recipients as part of poverty alleviation efforts. He emphasized the importance of shifting from social protection to empowerment which encourages communities to be independent through measurable programs and collaboration with local governments.

"We will formulate steps together with local governments so that people receiving social assistance can be empowered through their skills or businesses," said Gus Ipul.

The Pandeglang flood, triggered by high rainfall and overflowing rivers, was exacerbated by high sea levels, inundating several areas and causing evacuations. The central and local governments continue to work together, strengthen logistics, and prepare anticipatory steps to face potential follow-up rains.

Gus Ipul's presence in disaster management, as well as delivering empowerment plans, shows Ministry of Social Affairs' commitment to not only handling emergency situations but also creating long-term solutions for community welfare.
