JAKARTA (November 29, 2024) - Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) emphasized the national commitment to provide equality and opportunities for people with disabilities through the "Setara Berkarya" initiative. This was conveyed in a podcast with Helmy Yahya (11/29/2024).

The Minister stated that the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a global momentum to serve, accompany, and empower people with disabilities. The government has set a mandatory policy to recruit 2% of disabled workers in the public sector, with the Ministry of Social Affairs employing 60 disabled employees out of a total of 3,000 employees.

The Ministry of Social Affairs' grand vision includes poverty alleviation, single data consolidation, and the 12 PAS (Social Attention Needs) program, which includes vulnerable groups such as children, neglected elderly people, disaster victims, and people with disabilities. The Ministry of Social Affairs is also discussing a special disability card to facilitate access to services.

In addition, the Minister emphasized the importance of an ecosystem that supports people with disabilities to gain equal access, facilities, and opportunities, including leadership. He hopes that the momentum of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities will inspire the community to become part of an inclusive, productive, and competitive Indonesia.
