JAKARTA (10 August 2023) – Ministry of Social Affairs continues to develop innovative equipment to support accessibility for persons with disabilities.  Most recently, Ministry of Social Affairs launched Grahita Disability Bracelet (GRITA).

The launch of GRITA was directed by Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, based on previous experiences where persons with disabilities were vulnerable to various types of violence.

Minister Risma stated that with this innovation, Grita could become an early warning for persons with disabilities from various threats.  This is because Grita has utilized artificial intelligence.

"Grita can detect the pulse through a sensor. If the pulse increases drastically, this watch will make a loud sound which can attract the attention of people surrounding," said the Minister at the launch of Grita at Aneka Bhakti Building, Jakarta (10/08).

Regarding the quality of the bracelet, Minister of Social Affairs guarantees this mentally retarded bracelet because the quality control of this assistive device is tested directly by persons with disabilities.  This is what has been applied to the tools that have been created by MoSA.

"At the end of the process, children with disabilities trial the product to know the quality control. So they will know better what is it. This can't be used. Check it back, or return it. He knows how (the tool) should work," said the Minister.

Grita is a follow-up innovation to the hearing and speech bracelet (Gruwi) which was launched previously.  Slightly different from its predecessor which was activated by pressing the panic button, Grita uses a pulse sensor where the bracelet will sound when the pulse exceeds normal limits.  Both Grita and Gruwi have fashionable designs so children don't need to be embarrassed to wear them.

“Children don't need to be embarrassed because the bracelets are very fashionable.  "So I hope our children can use it and they can be safer wherever they are," said Social Affairs Minister Risma.

Currently, Grita's patent is in process and later all of Ministry of Social Affairs' innovations will be patented internationally.  For now, Ministry of Social Affairs will produce it themselves.  It is feared that commercial production will increase the price of assistive devices and make them unaffordable for persons with disabilities.

At this event, Minister of Social Affairs had the opportunity to hand over Grita to representatives of Social Welfare Service for Persons in Need from several centers and integrated centers who were present at this event, including representatives from Inten Soeweno Cibinong Integrated Center, Magelang Antasena Center, Temanggung Kartini Integrated Center, Pangudi Luhur Integrated Center Bekasi, Jakarta Handayani Center, Phalamarta Sukabumi Center, Abhiyoso Center, Integrated Center Prof.Dr. Soeharso Surakarta, Mulyajaya Center Jakarta, and Margo Laras Center Pati.

Head of the Integrated Center Inten Soeweno Cibinong, Mokhamad O. Royani, explained that Grita uses a sensor for heart rate which is represented in the pulse.  The bracelet is worn on the wrist so that the sensor is exposed to our pulse.

"The normal pulse rate for children to early adults is an average of 100 beats per minute. This means that if there is a pulse rate above 100 per minute, then an extraordinary condition occurs. This also includes sexual violence," said Royani while pedaling a stationary bike, demonstrating Grita's performance.

Nur Madyo Wibowo (48), a deaf man from Antasena Center Magelang who received Grita from Minister of Social Affairs, couldn't stop smiling when he tried on the bracelet. With Grita, he hopes to take better care of himself.

"I'm very happy. This is the first time in history, I'm using a Grahita bracelet. Hopefully, I can synchronize it with myself. With this tool, hopefully, I can take better care of my personal safety."

Also present at this event were the Chair of the National Commission on Disabilities, Dante Rigmalia, the Senior Advisor of the Minister and the Special Advisor of the Minister, Acting  Secretary General Robben Rico, Director General of Social Rehabilitation Pepen Nazarudin, Acting  Director General of Social Empowerment Beni Sujanto, Acting Inspector General Dody Sukmono, Head of the Integrated Center Inten Soeweno M.O.  Royani, and Echelon II Officials along with Heads of Centers/Integrated Centers/Training Centers within MoSA.
