The Ministry of Social Affairs also mobilized aid for the hurricane disaster in Polewali Mandar

DENPASAR (16 October 2021) – Social Minister Tri Rismaharini instructed her staff to take care of the victims of the earthquake on the border of Karangasem and Bangli, Bali Province.

Following up on the instructions, the Directorate of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA) of the Ministry of Social Affairs moved quickly. Since this morning, through Mahatmiya Center Bali, logistical assistance has been sent to disaster survivors in the form 120 packs of ready-to-eat meals and 78 packs of children's food.

In addition, the Ministry of Social Affairs through the PSKBA Directorate has also taken a number of post-disaster support measure by sending emergency assistance officers, conducting assessments at disaster locations with the Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana) from Bangli Regency and Karangasem Regency.

Tagana and social pillars also helped evacuate victims to safer places and coordinated all Tagana representatives throughout Bali to be deployed to the location. 

Tagana also increased coordination with the Bali Provincial Social Office to establish a field kitchen in Bongan and the deployment of logistics from Bangli Regency and Karangasem Regency Social Offices.

Citing data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale occurred on Saturday (16/10/2021) morning, at around 03.18 WITA. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km or 8 km northwest in Karangasem Regency, Bali.

The affected locations are in 3 districts, namely: 1) Kubu District includes Ban Village, Tianyar Village, Paleg Hamlet; 2) Sibetan Village of Bebandem District; 3) Rendang District includes Pempatan Village, Banjar Dinas Putung.

Data as of today, at 11.30 WIB, 3 people died, and 15 people were injured. A total of 9 houses were heavily damaged, 1 temple and puseh temple were heavily damaged, 9 shrines (holy buildings) were damaged, 1 educational facility was damaged, and access roads were blocked by landslides.

In addition to the earthquake in Bali, the Ministry of Social Affairs also mobilized assistance for the tornado in Polewali Mandar (Polman) Regency, West Sulawesi Province, Thursday (13/10) at 17:00 WITA.

A tornado hit Mapilli District, Sub-district/Village Buku. The disaster affected 23 families (90 people), consisting of 44 women and 46 men. Currently, residents have taken refuge in nearby family homes.

Tarpaulins and food are urgently needed. The impact of the disaster: 5 houses were heavily damaged; 5 houses were lightly damaged; and 13 houses were moderately damaged. The Ministry of Social Affairs through Tagana Polewali Mandar Regency has collected data and distributed aid, in the form of 23 sheets of mattresses; 23 blankets; 23 sheet tent rolls/tarpaulins; 12 packs of kid ware; 23 family kit packs; and 23 food packages.
