Wins Silver Medal in Weightlifting at Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Social Minister Gives Savings and Awards to Ni Nengah Widiasih

JAKARTA (17 October 2021) – Social Minister Tri Rismaharini appreciated the brilliant achievement of the powerlifting athlete, Ni Nengah Widiasih, who was successful in the women's 41 kg class of weightlifting and won a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
The award for outstanding Persons with Disabilities from the Social Minister was handed over directly to Ni Nengah Widiasih by the Director of Social Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (RSPD), Eva Rahmi Kasim in the form of a Training Certification savings of IDR 20 million.
This 28-year-old female athlete from Bali successfully won a silver medal from the weightlifting branch at the Tokyo International Forum. This Paralympic performance is the third time for Ni Nengah Widiasih. She successfully improved her ranking and achievement by recording the best force of 98 kg.
"I am proud to represent Indonesia, because at the Tokyo Paralympic I can improve my ranking and achievements. I am very proud to be able to fly the red and white at the Paralympic event," said Ni Nengah Widiasih.
In the future, she hopes that her friends with disabilities can be more independent and dare to show themselves to achieve all their dreams. "The most important thing is never to give up and have to believe in yourself as long as we want to work hard and try then nothing is impossible," she said.
Ni Nengah Widiasih has been using a wheelchair since she was 3 years old. She was diagnosed with polio, which made her legs unable to walk normally.
For the nearest agenda, Ni Nengah Widiasih will go to George, Russia, for the World Weightlifting Championships, as well as preparations for the Paralympic Championships in Paris, France.
Director of the RSPD Eva Rahmi Kasim stated that Ni Nengah Widiasih is proud of her perseverance and consistency in the activities carried out in the world of weight lifting.
"We are proud of Ni Nengah's achievements. Even though she is in a wheelchair, she can become one of the female weight lifters for this Paralympics," said Eva.
Consistency and discipline to focus on goals during the training process are needed to excel. Ni Nengah has proven to be able to achieve success with her perseverance. "Congratulations Ni Nengah Widiasih, keep up the good work and keep inspiring," added Eva.
In addition to IDR 20 million grant, the Ministry of Social Affairs also gave a Charter of Appreciation to Ni Nengah Widiasih to continue to motivate her.
Previously, on 24 September, an award ceremony was held for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Athletes, the Social Minister said that the Ministry of Social Affairs would provide support related to training patterns in the form of facilities and infrastructure so that Athletes with Disabilities could more optimally prepare for other international sports events.
