Risma Shares Her Intention to Empower Homeless People Through Micro Business
JAKARTA (December 30, 2020) - Minister of Social
Affairs Tri Rismaharini returned to meet residents who are living under the
Gedong Panjang toll road, Pluit, North Jakarta.
To the occupants of the huts and illegal buildings
under the toll road, Risma conveyed the same message as the residents on the
riverbanks whom he had met on Monday. Risma motivated them to have the spirit
to improve their standard of living, while offering empowerment programs.
Risma encouraging the men to continue their
profession as scavengers, while the mothers will be taught to open micro
businesses. Risma offered them to cultivate catfish stalls which it has been
managed at the “Pangudi Luhur” Bekasi Social Rehabilitation Center for
Ex-Homeless and Beggars (BRSEGP).
"Gentlemen, it's okay to be scavengers to make
money. Later, we will teach the mothers how to earn money. There is catfish behind
backyard of BRSEGP “Pangudi Luhur”, we will make pecel lele from it. Or make
another, which can be sold. "said Risma.
During the visit accompanied by the Director
General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry Hikmat, Risma did not forget to greet
the children. "Come on, you must become a smart kid. I'll give you a
scholarship later. Prove that you can be successful even though you are
currently living under toll roads,” she said.
To local residents, Risma emphasized that if they
want to change their fate, they must go through education. Risma stated that she
had taken serious and real steps to open access to education for children from
underprivileged circles while serving as Mayor of Surabaya.

On that occasion, Risma also discuss with representatives from the Social Welfare Institution (LKS) and the Report Mandatory Recipient Institution (IPWL) who were present at the location. Risma plans to involve them to reach the social welfare service recipients (PPKS).
