Seven Ministries Speed Up to Discuss on Disaster Management Draft La

JAKARTA (August 28, 2019) The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs together with six other ministries discussed the Disaster Management Draft (RUU PB) proposed by the House of Representatives (DPR). This draft was proposed as an amendment to Law Number 24 of 2007 concerning Disaster Management.

Minister of Social Affairs Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that there were seven Ministers who were appointed to represent the Discussion of the PB Draft with the House of Representatives in accordance with the Minister of State Secretary Letter dated August 7, 2019, including the Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Administrative Reform and Bureaucracy Reform (Kemenpan RB), Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) and Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kum HAM).

"The Ministry of Social Affairs' role as coordinator in the discussion of the Disaster Management Draft," said Social Minister Agus.

The Disaster Management Draft also includes relevant ministries and institutions, including the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, the Ministry of Health, National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Council (BMKG), and National Search and Relief Agency (Basarnas).

The discussion on the Disaster Management Draft began with the DPR's proposal on July 23, 2019. The Problem Inventory List (DIM) is then discussed to determine the direction of the government's understanding in responding to the proposed Disaster Management Draft initiated by House of Representatives (DPR).

Minister of Social Affairs Agus stressed that the state is obliged to provide protection for life and livelihoods including disaster protection. It is expected that the draft Disaster Management Draft has been submitted to the Minister of State Secretariat in the first week of September.

"We will strive for this Disaster Management Draft to become law," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

Meanwhile Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Doni Monardo hopes that with the Disaster Management Draft, disaster management is more integrated so that the task of the state in providing protection and saving its people can be carried out.
