Social Granaries and Disaster Preparedness Village
According to the Minister of Social Affairs' observations, the area around the disaster was still densely overgrown with trees. However, landslides still occur. The Minister of Social Affairs reminded all parties to be aware of extreme weather symptoms caused by global warming.
From SMAN 1 Serasan, the Minister of Social Affairs greeted the residents of Payak Village in East Serasan District. Access to Payak Village has been cut off since Monday, due to the main road connecting to other areas being blocked by a landslide.
From Payak, the Minister of Social Affairs visited the Serasan Nagara Cross-Border Post (PLBN). Apart from checking the readiness and adequacy of assistance, the Minister of Social Affairs also checked the operations of public kitchens at PLBN.
On that occasion, the Minister of Social Affairs emphasized how to take steps to reduce disaster risks and assigned staff to increase the preparedness of Serasan residents. The Ministry of Social Affairs will educate and increase the collective abilities of citizens in dealing with disasters.
"We will teach about mitigation and provide training so that there are no more fatalities, and we will also create social granaries here," she said.
To increase community preparedness in disaster-prone locations, the Ministry of Social Affairs established Disaster Preparedness Villages (KSB), a planned, integrated, coordinated, and comprehensive community-based disaster preparedness effort with public and private participation and partnership.
The social granaries are the buffer stock collection point for residents affected by disasters. The social granaries are located in the closest location in a disaster-prone area.
The social granaries contain various daily necessities such as foodstuffs, clothing, press, generators, blankets, tents, water purifiers, solar panels, and so on. Social granaries materials are adapted to the needs of local communities.
With social granaries, residents who live in disaster-prone areas still receive support for daily necessities despite the cut-off access to their residences.
