Social Affairs Minister Risma Builds 72 Houses for Jayapura Earthquake Survivors, Papua
JAYAPURA
(August 27, 2024) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini is
building 72 habitable houses for Jayapura earthquake survivors in Papua. In
addition to providing houses, Minister Risma will also provide economic
empowerment assistance in the form of chickens, pigs, fish farming, and
agriculture. "There are 72 houses for disaster victims that we then
relocated because it was impossible to build in the previous place,"
explained the Special Advisor to the Minister of Social Affairs for
Communication and Mass Media, Don Rozano Sigit Prakoeswa who received a special
task from Risma, Monday (26/8).
A total of 72
houses have been built on land with a total area of 26,091 m2. In
that area, various livestock, fisheries, and agricultural facilities will also
be built to support economic activities and for daily consumption. In addition,
the housing complex will also be equipped with clean water and drinking water
treatment facilities powered by solar power.
Previously,
Ministry of Social Affairs had collaborated with various universities in
developing breakthroughs in providing more sophisticated assistance. Through
the leadership of Tri Rismaharini, Ministry of Social Affairs has collaborated
with the academic community to present sophisticated technology that
effectively contributes to improving community welfare. One of the assistances
provided in Jayapura, which on this occasion collaborated with the Telkom
Surabaya Institute of Technology and the University of Indonesia in building
solar panels for electricity needs and clean water processors and
ready-to-drink water with reverse osmosis solar technology.
In addition,
Minister of Social Affairs Risma collaborated with the Jayapura Diocese in data
collection and the process of building the houses. The role of the diocese also
includes supervision and assistance for empowerment activities carried out by
recipients of housing assistance. "We from the diocese are tasked with
accompanying them," said Hilarius Warsito, Chair of the Housing and Land
Commission of the Jayapura Diocese.
"Initially when the disaster occurred, they took refuge at the bishop’s house," continued Warsito, saying that the bishop then told Minister of Social Affairs Risma about it. Risma immediately followed up by providing housing assistance to the disaster victims. "I am grateful, Mrs. Risma is very close to us," concluded Warsito.
The house
built by Ministry of Social Affairs is 6 x 6 meters in size and has a living
room, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a kitchen. The roof is made of metal and has
brick walls and ceramic floors. The building materials used are quality
materials consisting of threaded steel and river stone foundations which make
them stronger than other conventional house buildings. It took five months to
build the 72 houses. The location is in Koya Timur Village, Muara Tami
District, Jayapura City.
