JAKARTA (November 1, 2024) - Social Affairs Vice Minister, Agus Jabo Priyono, visited the home of Sahrul Hasibuan (16), a beneficiary of the orphan assistance program (YAPI), in Bambu Apus Village, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, on Friday (11/1/2024). The visit aimed to provide moral support and motivate Sahrul to keep studying and excelling in school, as well as to encourage the family to stay optimistic despite various challenges.

"Keep up the spirit," said the Vice Minister as he shook Sahrul’s hand.

Sahrul has received YAPI assistance since 2022, meeting the eligibility criteria for the program. YAPI provides support to fulfill children’s needs in the form of cash assistance amounting to IDR 200,000 per month. This assistance is given to children who have lost one or both parents. Sahrul lost his mother to COVID-19 in 2021.

Since his mother’s passing, Sahrul has been cared for by his father, Samsir Hasibuan (61), and three older siblings. He is currently in the 10th grade at Rahayu Mulyo Vocational High School. Sahrul expressed his ambition to work in a workshop after graduating from his vocational studies in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology. He hopes to use the abilities he acquired in school to enter the workforce.

"Thank God, this aid has helped ease school expenses," said Samsir. He added that the tuition fee at the private school is IDR 300,000 per month, and the YAPI assistance helps reduce his financial burden.

Samsir further stated that he currently works as a driver and has not had any employment offers in the last 2-3 months. He previously worked in Karawang, earning a variable monthly income.

The family resides in the home of Sahrul's grandfather, who is also Samsir's father-in-law, together with several other family members, including Samsir's father and siblings, who are already employed. Despite the many challenges they face, Samsir and Sahrul remain optimistic and grateful for the assistance they receive.
