JAKARTA (8 March 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs hopes that the media can strengthen the mainstreaming of women's roles in social welfare development. Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini invited the media to strengthen education and support for women, wherein the era of the pandemic the task was even more difficult.

To the declarators of the Indonesian Woman Journalist Alliance (AWI), the Minister of Social Affairs called for partiality and support for women, by various groups of people, including the media.

"In the era of the pandemic, women's roles are increasingly complex because they are required to play additional roles, such as being "teachers" because they have to teach their children who learn online. As a woman, I hope that AWI has the same spirit to strengthen the role of women," said the Minister of Social Affairs at the declaration of the Indonesian Woman Journalist Alliance (AWI), in Jakarta, Monday (08/03).

According to the Minister of Social Affairs, the declaration of AWI which falls on March 8 or in conjunction with International Women's Day, is in line with the vision and task of the Ministry of Social Affairs which places the family where the woman (mother) is an important subject - as a strategic target in its various programs. Like PKH, which places the important role of the mother both as a pillar in the family as well as the motor in the program to accelerate poverty alleviation.

"Thus, there is a common spirit between the Ministry of Social Affairs and AWI which I believe can be an important asset in the context of jointly ensuring that social welfare development programs, especially in accelerating poverty alleviation, run on the principles of justice and civility," she said.

For the Ministry of Social Affairs, the media is a strategic partner. As formulated in Article 3 paragraph (1) of the Press Law no. 40 of 1999 on the Press, among the functions of the press are information and education to the public. In this case, the media works to collect and process information and data before publishing it to the public.

According to the Minister of Social Affairs, educative information is disseminated to the community, which in turn can shape public opinion. "The media can be a strategic partner, together with elements of other nations, fostering a spirit of optimism in facing the fight against the pandemic, while continuing to educate the public so as not to slack off in implementing health protocols, even though the vaccination program is currently being pushed by the government," said the Minister.
