BANJARBARU (July 8, 2021) - The current era of digital development requires all development sectors to be able to adapt to the rapid changes that occur, including special libraries.

 

Special Library is a library that emphasizes its collection in a special field or related fields.

 

The Education and Training Center (BBPPKS) Library Banjarmasin is a special type of library under the auspices of MoSA.

 

Currently, BBPPKS Library Banjarmasin has approximately 3000 collections of monographs, most of which are internally published magazines and supporting books related to Social Welfare.

 

The development of technology from time to time demands also the Banjarmasin BBPPKS Library to improve the quality of its collections and services, the process of changing libraries and librarians in Indonesia has entered the digital era 4.0 and the era of disruption.

 

"The Disruption Era is an era of innovation and massive change that can fundamentally change all existing systems to new ways. As a result, users who are still using the old methods and systems will be unable to compete," explained the Head of BP3S Prof. Syahabuddin in his speech.

 

Through this activity, BBPPKS Library Banjarmasin will try to map out strategies for the development of special libraries, as well as so that there is a synchronization of perceptions and goals between work units related to libraries, especially within MoSA continued Prof. Syahabuddin.

 

Present online in this webinar, the Head of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, M. Syarif Bando, in his presentation conveyed about strengthening the role of the upstream side in increasing the literacy index of the community to create superior human resources.

 

The Head of National Library also said that during pandemics, we have more time to read books, both printed and e-books. "There are no smart people without reading," he continued.

 

Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Hasim said that MoSA Library is a means to improve and support the implementation of Social Welfare, a special library that is intended for a limited number of users in the government environment, and other institutions that have specialties.

 

"The function of the special library is as a reference library, as well as a deposit center, which stores collections from units. Therefore, each unit is obliged to collect and store printed works and recorded works produced in MoSA’s library," he continued.

Furthermore, the Head of the Public Relations Bureau was encouraged to start getting excited again about developing libraries, because the problem is not quantity, but the quality is still low, and the low commitment of policymakers in developing libraries, limited infrastructure, library managers, low interest in reading, and an out of date system is also an obstacle.

"MoSA’s Library has developed a strategy, namely the development of infrastructure, completing the collection of library materials to suit the needs of the community, developing technically competent human resource managers, providing budget support, promotion, and utilizing the latest IT, because of the importance of library revitalization in the implementation of social welfare," he concluded.
