Still Under Heavy Rain, Mrs. Risma: The Residents Must Be Evacuated to Safe Locations Tonight
SUMEDANG (January 10, 2021) - The Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini asked the local government to find a safe place for the victims of the landslide disaster, considering that the situation was still pouring rain.
"Tonight, I asked the Regent, Head of Subdistrict, and Head of Village to evacuate the residents to a safe location because the rain is still pouring. I am distraught," said Social Affairs Minister Risma while greeting the landslide victims and handing over logistical assistance near the Disaster Voluntary Workers (Tagana) Command Post of the Ministry of Social Affairs in Sumedang, Sunday (10/1/2021) evening.
Mrs. Risma -- Tri Rismaharini's nickname -- also expressed her deep condolences to the residents and apparatus who were victims of the landslide disaster which killed 15 people and injured dozens of other residents.
"Please be patient with this disaster, ladies and gentlemen. We have to believe in destiny. This disaster has killed residents and officials and injured dozens of other people," said Mrs. Risma to calm a mother who was crying uncontrollably because she lost her family member.
Currently, the heavy rain is still pouring, causing the tents risky as an alternative shelter. Thus, three elementary school (SD) buildings around the disaster site will be used as shelters.
"The Sub-District Head and the Village Head will prepare three SD buildings to be used as shelters for residents. Tonight they must also be prepared near the Ministry of Social Affairs' Tagana Command Post," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
In addition, Mrs. Risma said that compensation would be given to the victims who died, as a form of the State is present for people who were affected by the disaster.
"We want to ensure that all residents who are victims and directly affected by the disaster are safe, get enough logistics and other needs," hoped the Minister of Social Affairs.
The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs through the Social Work Serve Unit (Sakti Peksos) since Saturday (9/1/2021) has deployed a team to provide psychosocial services for residents, both adults and children as well as the elderly.
