DEMAK (February 7th, 2024) - The Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) through "Margo Laras" Center in Pati provided Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) for Supiani (46), a resident of Katonsari Village, Demak Regency, Central Java, who suffered from optic nerve disorders.

Supiani had vision problems in her script eye since she was a teenager. She lived with her son, Ahmad (18), who had multiple disabilities: intellectual and mental disabilities.

Supiani had her eyes checked at the Community Health Center, but was unable to carry out further treatment due to financial constraints. "It's been two weeks since I couldn't see at all in my right eye," said Supiani about her condition, on Friday (2/2).

As an effort to help Supiani, MoSA carried out several interventions by assisting with referrals to the Eye Clinic at Sunan Kalijaga Regional Hospital, Demak. The hospital provided medicine and therapy to treat pain in her hand and head.

“From the results of the examination, Mrs. Supiani experienced congenital secondary Nystaghmus. This can be caused by glaucoma due to high eye pressure which causes the vision in the surrounding eye to decrease," said dr. Deby Armawati reading out the test results. The doctor recommended that Supiani be referred to an ophthalmologist at Kariadi Hospital Eye Clinic, Semarang.

MoSA also accompanied a health check to ensure Ahmad's physical condition at Sunan Kalijaga Regional Hospital, Demak. Then, Ahmad was evacuated to "Margo Laras" Center in Pati to receive social rehabilitation and treatment services.

After having a dialogue with Supiani, MoSA would provide entrepreneurial assistance in the form of equipment and cooking materials for Supiani who wanted to open a food stall. MoSA would also continue to provide assistance to Supiani at the Eye Clinic at Kariadi General Hospital, Semarang, for her eye treatment. Supiani hoped the various steps taken by MoSA would enable her to see normal again.
