Two Toddlers with Leaky Heart Valve and Gastrointestinal Disease, MoSA and KitaBisa Provide Hundreds of Millions for Medical Aid
Malika was diagnosed with a leaky heart valve disease termed an atrial septal defect (ASD). Faisal suffers from a gastrointestinal disorder that often results in intestinal obstruction - commonly referred to as Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR). Malika received IDR 67,103,125 and Faizal IDR 57,663,139.
The aid was handed over directly by the Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini and representatives of KitaBisa.com on Friday afternoon in Central Maluku (5/5).
"We hope this aid can be useful for the children of the mothers here for treatment and school," said Minister of Social Affairs Risma.
Coming from Ternate City, Malika's mother Wiwin A Ali and Faizal's mother Nuraisah Daud were touched and relieved. They could finally bring their children to the hospital for treatment.
"Malika has been coughing and cold since she was little. We thought it was because she was easily ill, but when she was examined in October last year, we found out that she had a leaky heart from the x-rays," said Wiwin.
Malika's leaking heart has been there since her birth. She was required to go for monthly heart check-ups and medication.
"Heart surgery should have been done immediately, but we didn't have the money. Alhamdulillah, we received donations from the Ministry of Social Affairs and KitaBisa so Malika can undergo the surgery," said Wiwin.
Faizal also experienced a similar story. The eldest son of Nuraisah Daud and Fahmi Yaman has been diagnosed with Hirschsprung since birth.
"At first Faizal was diagnosed with a narrowing of the colon, then after re-diagnosis it turned out to be Hirschsprung," Nuraisah said.
In 2020, Faizal's family planned to take him for treatment at a hospital in Manado but failed to do so due to the COVID-19 black zone.
"His stomach swelled up but we couldn't leave. We ended up trying traditional medicine in South Buru," Nuraisah said.
Unfortunately, Faizal's condition worsened and he required immediate medical attention. After COVID-19 subsided, Faizal's family immediately took him to a hospital in Manado.
Slow but sure, Faizal is recovering. He now has a stoma in his left abdomen. Intestinal splicing surgery is the next step he needs to undergo to get his digestive system back to normal.
"The doctor is still monitoring the condition of the intestine, if it has shrunk, surgery will be carried out. We are grateful for the donations from the Ministry of Social Affairs and KitaBisa so that we can help with the cost of Faizal's surgery later," Nuraisah said.
Not only receiving aid for treatment, Malika and Faizal also received ATENSI assistance in the form of nutritional needs, educational toys, and other equipment, as well as entrepreneurial capital from Sentra Wasana Bahagia Ternate.
