SOUTH JAKARTA (September 13, 2024) – The Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA), through the Mulya Jaya and Handayani Centers in Jakarta, has intervened to support NS, Ariyani's daughter (45). A variety of Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) has been provided to the young girl who is depressed as a result of her stepfather's physical, psychological, and sexual abuse.
The victim has already had a medical checkup and has been treated at Dr Soediran Mangun Sumarso Regional Hospital in Wonogiri, her mother's village. Meanwhile, her mother, Ariyani, reported the rape to the police in July 2023. "The victim's trauma is beginning to heal, but there are periodic relapses. When it happens, her emotions become uncontrollable," said Aida Fitriani, a Junior Social Worker at the Mulya Jaya Center in Jakarta.
Mulya Jaya and Handayani Centers in Jakarta distributed various forms of assistance to the victim and her mother on Monday (2/9). The victim received nutritional support, a mattress, and art therapy supplies, including canvases, paints, and painting tools, in line with her interests. It is hoped that through art therapy, the victim can express her feelings and positively channel her emotions.
Ariyani, the victim's mother, also received business assistance to help support her family's finances. Ariyani's current monthly salary as a domestic worker is IDR 700,000. To supplement her family's income, she sells snacks for an additional IDR 500,000 each month. However, this overall income is insufficient to cover their bills, particularly since they must pay IDR 700,000 in rent each month. Ariyani expressed tremendous thanks for the kindness of those around her, as well as for MoSA aid.
"I am very grateful to my neighbors, who are kind and often help me. Even the head of the neighborhood lent me a motorcycle to sell snacks. Now, I have received tools and materials from MoSA to make cheese sticks, including a blender, grinder, and ingredients like flour and butter," stated Ariyani in tears.
MoSA provides ongoing assistance. Social workers from the Mulya Jaya and Handayani Centers communicate with the rape victim and her mother regularly to ensure that the environment they are living in is safe and appropriate for NS. In addition, coordination with the Family Hope Program (PKH) companion is ongoing to accelerate Ariyani's PKH assistance. Mulya Jaya and Handayani Center staff are also keeping an eye on Ariyani's business to ensure that it grows and meets the needs of her family.
