Vice Minister of Social Affairs Visits Elderly Meal Program Beneficiary in East Jakarta
JAKARTA (November 1, 2024) – Agus Jabo Priyono, Vice Minister of Social Affairs, paid a visit to Bambu Apus Village in Cipayung District, East Jakarta, to meet with Abah Jamaludin, who is a beneficiary of the Ministry of Social Affairs' Meal Program for Elderly Living Alone. This visit illustrates the Indonesian government's dedication to the well-being of its older inhabitants.
Abah Jamaludin (77) lives alone in a rented house on Mandor Wahab Alley, Rt.7 Rw. 3, Bambu Apus, East Jakarta, and has been receiving the meal program since March 7, 2023.
Despite his elderly age, he remains involved in his community by teaching Quranic recitation.
"Mr Jamaludin is one of the elderly who benefit from the Ministry of Social Affairs' meal program. He gets his meals twice a day, in the morning and afternoon. This is one of our concrete measures to provide special care for the elderly in Indonesia," stated Vice Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono.
In addition to nutritious meals, Abah Jamaludin receives Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI), which includes nutritional support, personal hygiene supplies, clothing, and room amenities.
Alia Yulinda, a social worker from the MoSA Directorate of Social Rehabilitation for Elderly, explained that the ATENSI aid aims to support the well-being of Abah Jamaludin in his senior years.
During the visit, the Vice Minister also requested the public for prayers and support so that the Ministry of Social Affairs may continue to assist people in need.
Abah Jamaludin shed tears as he expressed his heartfelt gratitude.
"At this age and in my current state, I am proud and appreciative that the government continues to care for me. This aid gives me hope for the rest of my life," he remarked.
Ansar Ansori, Chairman of Community 03, welcomed the Vice Minister's visit and noted that the support for Abah Jamaludin was both timely and well-deserved. He believes the meal program for the elderly can be expanded to other areas in the vicinity, noting that 25 other senior residents are eligible for assistance but have yet to be served by the program.
Through this visit, the Ministry of Social Affairs confirms its commitment to remaining present and providing assistance, particularly to those who require special care.
