BENGKULU (May 10, 2023) - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini met 35 rape victims of an honorary teacher in North Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu Province (09/05). She was present to ensure that the social rehabilitation process for the victims and their families was running smoothly.

"I came here because I want to complete (the rehabilitation process), the process is quite long. I want to assure parents and children that the rehabilitation process can run smoothly," said Minister of Social Affairs Risma at the Giri Kencana Village Office, North Bengkulu Regency (09/05).

Through the enthusiasm transmitted by Minister of Social Affairs Risma, the victims slowly began to show enthusiasm and smiles. Especially when the Minister of Social Affairs expressed her plan with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), to hold a futsal match with various prizes such as laptops and futsal shoes.

The children who were victims of rape welcomed Minister of Social Affairs Risma's idea with joy and enthusiasm. "Do you want a futsal match later? Later, I will send you a goalpost and a ball. "Will you practice every day?" asked Social Affairs Minister Risma to the victims.

"Ready, ma'am, stay strong!!," answered the victims loudly and enthusiastically.

In addition to providing encouragement and motivation, the Minister of Social Affairs also distributed various assistance to the victims. The assistance provided was i.e. basic food assistance, clothing assistance, nutritional assistance, cleaning equipment, school supplies and counseling, drawing equipment worth a total of IDR90,525,505.-

Not only to the victims, the families of the victims who were also present were also given encouragement by the Minister of Social Affairs. He asked the families of the victims not to consider this incident as a disgrace, because their children were victims. The Minister of Social Affairs asked the families to continue to accompany and encourage their children, so that their mental condition would recover quickly.

"Sir, ma'am, this is not a disgrace. Sir, ma'am, don't be ashamed, because our children are victims, not perpetrators. After today I will continue to monitor. I will help, but we must also be strong because mothers will help guide the children. We are worried that if the children are not handled, they will become a perpetrator,” said the Minister of Social Affairs to the victim’s family.

Minister of Social Affairs Risma also reminded the victim’s parents to continue to provide support to their children.

“As I said earlier to the children, your body is yours. So, no one is allowed to touch it except you,” said the Minister of Social Affairs.

Psychological Assistance

The recovery process of the victims and assistance for this case will continue to be monitored by the Ministry of Social Affairs, until the condition of the victims can be cheerful again like other children.

“Later there will be psychologists who will help them both at school and at home. So there will be routine psychologists and psychiatrists who will accompany them. Later if the condition, for example, is suspected to be severe, we will handle it,” added the Minister of Social Affairs.

On this occasion, the Minister of Social Affairs took the time to discuss with the local government to find a solution to break the chain of rape behavior, especially in minors, so that there are no more similar cases. One of the solutions offered is to create an environment at home, school and the surrounding area that is friendly and safe for children.

"Earlier I also said that we must create an atmosphere at school, in the village, in the region, in the hamlet, the atmostphere must be friendly and safe for children. Later I will work with the Chief of Police, the Commander of the Military District, we will hold a competition between them so that their trauma can disappear quickly, and they can return to being like other children," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
