Visiting the Rape Victim, Minister of Social Affairs Brings Toys and Social Assistance

PURBALINGGA (10 March 2023) — Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini pays serious attention to rape victims, especially minors. One of them is R (6), the resident of Purbalingga Regency, Central Java Province, who became a victim of rape by her mother's close friend.


During her visit, the Minister brought toys and clothes for the victim so she could enjoy playing according to her age of development. The Minister also brought toys for the victim's cousins since the victim is living with them.


Following the Minister’s direction, the Directorate General of Child Social Rehabilitation and the Baturraden "Satria" Center provided assistance to the victim in the form of psychosocial assistance, given the condition that the victim is experiencing quite severe trauma. This counseling was one of the efforts to recover the victim from psychological trauma. The Minister of Social Affairs (MoSA) also gave encouragement to the victims and their families to remain steadfast in facing all trials and life in the future.


Psychosocial assistance was also given to the victim’s mother who is mentally disabled. MoSA registered the mother to Banyumas Hospital to receive treatment for her mental disorder.


As a form of social protection, the Minister has R stay at the “Satria” Center in Baturraden to ensure her security and safety since R is still a minor.


MoSA also provided legal assistance to victims during the investigation process at the Women and Children Services Unit of the Purbalingga Police. On this occasion, the Minister said that this case should be a lesson learned for all and there will be no more cases of forced children. The Minister said that the perpetrators must receive the harshest punishment.


In addition to psychosocial assistance, the Ministry of Social Affairs provided entrepreneurial assistance in the form of a gas stove, grill and frozen food to the victims' families so they could improve their standard of living to meet their daily needs. The victims were also given basic food assistance, additional nutrition, personal equipment, school equipment, educational aids, mattresses, pillows, bed linen, and children's clothes. The total assistance provided was IDR 16,045,600. 


Regent of Purbalingga Dyah Hayuning Pratiwi, who was also present to accompany the Minister, expressed his gratitude for the attention from the Ministry of Social Affairs to her citizens who have been raped.


"On behalf of the government and also representing the families of the victims, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Minister of Social Affairs for all your attention today, who has departed from Surabaya and has to go to Natuna tonight, but took the time to be present in Purbalingga Regency to provide support and encouragement to R as a rape victim," said Dyah.
