MOJOKERTO (December 30th, 2023) - From a distance, a crowd of residents could be seen on the side of the road in Balong Cangkring area, Mojokerto City, which invited curiosity. After being approached, apparently a woman was telling story about the wheelchair she had just received from the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA).

This special gift at the end of the year from Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini transformed the personality of Wiji Rahayu (50), who was once in despair because of her condition to be full of hope. Her complexion was bright, as bright as the weather at that day. While smiling gratefully, she kept rubbing her new wheelchair.

Wiji did not expect to receive wheelchair assistance from MoSA which was holding social services in Mojokerto City, East Java. A mother of three children, who worked as a food trader, was helpless due to diabetes. The condition of the disease was so chronic that one of her legs had to be amputated.

"My pain was serious, and my condition was dropping. Finally, the doctor decided that my leg had to be amputated. I was scared, but there was no other way," said her.

This resident of Balong Cangkring Village, Mojokerto City also has a disability. She couldn't go anywhere as she didn't have a wheelchair. This situation lasted for six months.

"I can't go anywhere. A neighbor lent me a wheelchair, but as I borrowed it, so it has to be returned," said Wiji as she continued to stroke her new wheelchair.

A few days ago, Wiji received good news. Employees from the sub-district and assistants from the Family Hope Program (PKH) came to her house and registered her to get assistance from MoSA.

"A few days ago, I was visited by a sub-district employee and asked my data profile to get help with a wheelchair from Mrs. Risma," said Wiji, her voice faltering with emotion.

Apparently, Wiji didn't only accept wheelchairs. In providing wheelchair assistance, which was a collaboration between MoSA and East Java Mojopahit Foundation, Wiji was also registered to get a prosthetic leg.

"Thank God, my legs were also measured to get a prosthetic leg. I can't say no more but gratitude to Mrs. Risma for helping me. After this, I will get back to my selling activity," she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of "Prof. Dr. Soeharso" Integrated Center in Surakarta, Agung Suhartoyo said that the social service held by MoSA also served the community's need for health aids and accessibility, such as glasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs and prosthetic legs.

The community was served directly by medical personnel and other involved officers from "Prof. Dr. Soeharso" Integrated Center in Surakarta, "Kartini" Integrated Center in Temanggung, "Pangudi Luhur" Integrated Center in Bekasi and "Satria" Center in Baturraden which were MoSA Technical Implementation Unit (UPT).

Health service activities were provided by 11 doctors, 15 nurses and 5 physiotherapists.

"We prepare and serve everything, including providing glasses, hearing aids and wheelchairs, in quantities according to community needs," said Agung.

This series of social service activities were also supported by the Government of Mojokerto City. The health workers involved came from the Health Service and Regional Hospital of Mojokerto City.
