JAYAPURA (10
December 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs responded to
the Tidal Sea disaster that hit Rani Island, Aruri Islands District, Supiori Regency,
Papua Province, by sending aid for disaster victims.
The Ministry
of Social Affairs sent logistical support for buffer stock from a warehouse at
the Center for Social Welfare Training and Education (BBPPKS Jayapura) in
Papua.
The aid
packages distributed by the Ministry of Social Affairs are 125 sheets of
mattresses, 100 rolls of tents, 360 packages of children's food, 50 packages of
Family kits, 60 sheets of blankets, 151 packages of necessities (5 kg of
rice, 1 liter of cooking oil, 1 box of tea bags (25 bags), Sardines 155 Grams
(2 Cans), Biscuits 300 Grams (2 Packs), Coffee 165 Grams (1 pack), Instant
Noodles 70 Grams (5 Packs), and goody bag.
Previously,
as many as 48 families on Rani Island, Aruri Islands District, Supiori Regency,
Papua had fled since Friday (12/3/2021) because their houses were submerged in
high tides. Until Friday 10/12/2021 the residents had not been able to return
because their houses were submerged in seawater.
“They have
fled to a safe place while waiting for assistance from the central government
and the Supirori district government. We will distribute aid today. They have
been displaced for several days because the tide has not receded and they have
to find a safe place," said Lukas Mansawan, Head of the Supiori Regency
Regional Board for Disaster Management (BPBD).
The Ministry
of Social Affairs through the Head of the Educational Research and Social Counseling
Agency (BP3S) has also coordinated with the Supiori district government through
the Deputy Regent (Wabub) and the TNI, Polri in handling the disaster.
Deputy
District Head, Supirori Nichodemus Ronsumbre said that the government's
response was a form of concern for the people on Rani Island in particular.
"We are here and assist. This
is proof that the government is paying attention to disaster victims on Rani
Island," said Nichodemus.
