Jakarta (October 1, 2024) – Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, often called Gus Ipul, received the President's Special Staff for Social Affairs Angkie Yudistia, Tuesday (1/10/2024). In this meeting, the Minister of Social Affairs and the president's special staff discussed the follow-up to the meeting of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Association of Persons with Disabilities (DPP PPDI) with the President.
The previous meeting between PPDI and the President was related to facilitation for the organization of persons with disabilities. "We are trying for the secretariat of the organization as support for persons with disabilities," said Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf.
The President's Special Staff, Angkie Yudistira, highlighted this secretariat effort as a new breakthrough to realize a friendly and inclusive Indonesia for persons with disabilities. "Later, with the existence of the secretariat, friends with disabilities can discuss together to realize the public policies needed," said Angkie.
Angkie added that she hopes that during Gus Ipul's leadership, he can implement policies related to people with disabilities in achieving their dreams. According to Angkie, to boost the economy of people with disabilities, it starts with education and honing their talents or strengths. The next is independence, which must be realized by working (both formal and informal) and recruiting people with disabilities for the Private, State, and BUMN. "The availability of jobs currently is more formal and the gap is very high, so the government through PP No. 70 of 2019, one of which is by recruiting people with disabilities," she added.
The Ministry of Social Affairs as a technical ministry in serving people with disabilities, has been in line in realizing efforts to fulfill the rights of people with disabilities through rehabilitation programs, empowerment, and establishing cooperation with the Private or State so that people with disabilities who receive vocational training can work in companies.
The meeting also discussed plans to improve the skills and creativity of people with disabilities through International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), which falls on December 3.
