EAST LOMBOK (7 December 2023) - A total of 643 prospective patients have registered to take part in free cataract surgery screening at the Selaparang Regional Hospital which was held for three days from 7th - 9th December 2023. Among the enthusiastic faces waiting for their turn, the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini appeared to have a conversation with the patients.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you don't need to worry about the cost and accommodation. We'll think about it later," said Risma, calming the patients.

Patients who have undergone surgery have complained about the distance from their home to the hospital. Especially after hearing the explanation from the Chairman of Lentera Mata Indah, dr. Robert Njo that they have to come back tomorrow and in the next month for a check-up.

"You have to come back tomorrow and a month later for a check-up, okay?" asked Robert to the patients.

According to data from the Health Service, the number of cataract sufferers in East Lombok has reached 2,000 people, therefore, the Ministry of Social Affairs in collaboration with Lentera Mata Indah, Rumah Senja, Muslim Around the World (MATW) and the Inti Foundation will organize regular cataract operations in the area.

The Ministry of Social Affairs has committed to overseeing the smooth running of this cataract surgery from start to finish. Knowing the residents' complaints about long distances, the Minister did not remain silent and tried to find a solution to this problem.

“Please think about those whose homes are quite distant, District Social Workers and PKH companions. The technical implementation units or centers should also help," the Minister gave instructions.

The hospital is also willing to provide accommodation for residents whose homes are far away. However, all residents agreed to choose to return home and go back to the hospital the next day.
