PADANG (26 October 2020) - Areas along the coastline / high seas have a high potential for natural disasters, ranging from flash floods, landslides, earthquakes, and even tsunamis, causing concern for the community. With the geographical condition of Padang City which is located on the west coast of Sumatra Island, with a coastline of 84 km, every rainy season, Padang City is never absent from being hit by flash floods, which often result in landslides.
In response to this, the Ministry of Social Affairs established a Disaster Preparedness Area (KwSB) in Bungus Teluk Kabung District, Padang City to improve community preparedness for natural disasters that often occur.
A total of 60 residents of Bungus Teluk Kabung Subdistrict were given basic disaster management training, starting from mapping the area, evacuating COVID-19 victims, vertical rescue, to establishing an evacuation post. With the provision of training and the establishment of the KwSB in Padang City, it is hoped that it will become a provision for the community in facing disasters.
