SLEMAN (December 18, 2024) - In commemoration of the 75th National Social Solidarity Day (HKSN), Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) together with Vice Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono held a free cataract surgery at Queen Latifa Hospital, Sleman, D.I. Yogyakarta. This activity aims to help underprivileged people who have difficulty paying for cataract surgery, which is quite expensive, between IDR8 and IDR10 million per patient.
This cataract surgery has targeted 11,000 patients throughout Indonesia in the past year. As many as 36 of the 60 participants who underwent initial screening in Sleman were eligible for surgery. The beneficiaries, such as Wismorejo (82), felt relieved after undergoing surgery and hoped to be able to see again.
Gus Ipul said that this activity is in line with the theme of HKSN 2024, "Strengthen Solidarity Towards a Golden Indonesia," which is also reflected in the collaboration between the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Sleman Regency Government, and various parties to reduce the number of persons with visual disabilities. In addition to cataract surgery, HKSN activities in Sleman also include general health services, therapy, disaster mitigation workshops, and social assistance provision.
