KENDARI (March 2, 2024) - The enthusiasm of the Social Welfare Service Persons in Need (PPKS) with Hearing and Speech Disabilities of Kendari City in learning entrepreneurship deserves a thumbs up.

This was seen when Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini reviewed the vocational training for handicrafts, food and beverages, and creative production which was attended by 131 PPKS at the Meohai Center in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Tuesday, March 2, 2024.

According to Social Affairs Minister Risma, the idea for this training came up when she first visited Kendari. She saw many young people with disabilities, so training was needed to encourage their future.

"The first time I came here, I saw many children with disabilities. I thought about creating a training agenda and thank God there were 131 participants. Therefore, we created various training for their future. We teach other creativities by utilizing regional wealth," explained the Minister.

In addition to reviewing the class, Minister Risma also handed over disability aids in the form of cell phones, Bracelets for Persons with Hearing and Speech Disabilities (Gruwi), Bracelets for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Grita), adaptive walking sticks, and hearing aids for PPKS, as well as award certificates for training instructors.

Zaky Abrar Rijal, a photography class instructor, said that language was the main obstacle in the class. However, they slowly began to learn sign language because they saw the participants' enthusiasm.

"They are very enthusiastic and creative. The results of the photos they took are good and can be explored further. Hopefully, this can continue to facilitate their talents and interests so that they mature and are ready to enter the industrial world," explained Zaky.

Ardhy (41), one of the participants, conveyed a similar statement. Although hampered by language, he was happy because he gained new knowledge for his salon business development. Assisted by a Sign Language Interpreter, Ardhy expressed his gratitude for this training.

"Thank you, Ministry of Social Affairs, for helping us who have hearing and speech disabilities, thank you very much," said Ardhy.

Vocational training in handy crafts, food and beverages, and creative production will be held for four days from 1 April to 4 April 2024 at the Meohai Kendari Center. Involving reliable and competent instructors, this training is expected to encourage creativity and enthusiasm for young people with hearing and speech disabilities in Kendari City and its surroundings.
