GARUT (April 15th, 2024) – Heri Iriyana (66) and Nenok Maryani (50), residents from Garut Kota District, Garut Regency, never stop expressing gratitude. They did not expect that a team from the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) would visit their house to provide assistance. Heri Iriyana and Nenok Maryani are grandparents of their grandson, Angga Raka (7). Angga lives with them because both of his parents have died.
Heri's and his wife live in conditions of economic limitations and have to care for Angga, who has had physical disability Cerebral Palsy since birth. Angga could not move his body which made him lie on bed every day. His grandfather and grandmother took turns looking after Angga. Angga has to be helped by them for food and hygiene purposes.
Angga has suffered from Cerebral Palsy since birth. Since then, he was left by his parents and raised by his grandparents.
"When we heard about this case, we carried out an assessment of Angga and his grandfather's family to find out their needs," said Nurse at "Pangudi Luhur" Integrated Center (STPL) in Bekasi, Angga Prasetia Permana.
Apart from caring for Angga, they also have a dependent child named Diva Heriudin who is still studying at school.
Angga once received therapeutic treatment for the disease he was suffering from, but it stopped because of the cost of treatment. "We took him for treatment some time ago, but due to the fee, the treatment then stopped," explained Angga.
Heri worked as a public transportation driver with a work schedule of three days a week and earned around IDR 100,000 per day. With limited income, it is quite hard to meet their daily needs, as well as Angga's care costs.
In order to meet Angga's daily needs and maintenance costs, STPL in Bekasi provided entrepreneurship assistance in the form of businesses selling food and drinks, such as instant noodles, various drinks and eggs using roadside carts with an aid value of IDR 3.5 million.
Apart from that, MoSA also provided a children's wheelchair to help Angga's mobility. Even though to get into the wheelchair, Angga still has to be helped, at least it will lighten the burden on Angga's grandparents.
Seeing Angga's condition as an orphan, MoSA has coordinated with the village and Garut Regency Social Service to insert Angga within his grandfather's family card.
Meanwhile, MoSA with Garut Regency Social Service, until Thursday (11/4), continued to periodically review Angga's health and carry out monitoring to review the sustainability of the business managed by Heri.
