EAST MANGGARAI (January 25th, 2024) - The Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA), through “Efata” Center in Kupang with support from the Family Hope Program (PKH) Companion and Rana Kolong Village Government, provided Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) assistance for Regina Roghong (66) and her son, Albertus Leon (27), who have had physical disability since birth.
Regina Roghong, a resident of Rana Kolong Village, Kota Komba District, East Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, has struggled by herself to take care of her son, Albertus Leon, since her husband died some time ago. Currently, Regina earns money to make a living by selling candlenuts, while Leon is paralyzed and has limited mobility.
"”Efata” Center in Kuoang’s officers have carried out the assessment. We are also coordinating with the Village Head to renew Regina's family card according to the number of family members living with her," said the Head of “Efata” Center in Kupang, Radik Karsadiguna.
Regina's family lives in a very simple house. Within the house, Regina lives with her 2 children, Albertus Leon and Meldiana Sorojo Oni (43) and also 5 grandchildren from her daughter, Meldiana. Regina makes a living by harvesting or looking for candlenuts in the garden to sell. She is also helped by her daughter as Regina's condition is currently getting weaker by age.
The income is only IDR 63,000 per harvest for 3 kg of candlenuts. Sometimes, Regina's daughter works in a neighbor's garden when someone asks for help, and is paid Rp50,000 per day.
MoSA provided Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) in the form of sleeping equipment, basic necessities, additional nutrition and personal care equipment. Apart from that, to make Leon's care easier, MoSA provided additional assistance in the form of a 3 in 1 wheelchair.
In order to empower the families, MoSA also provided empowerment support for Regina's daughter, Meldiana, so that she could ease the burden on her mother and sister. In order to support the continued education of Regina's school-aged grandchildren, MoSA would provide assistance with uniforms and school equipment.
