JAKARTA (January 17, 2024) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through Sentra Budi Perkasa Palembang distributed assistance in the form of Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) and conducted medical examinations on M Ali (37), a person with disabilities who experienced cerebral palsy from Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. Ali was treated at the neurology clinic and physiotherapy clinic of Sekayu Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Musi Banyuasin.
Ali has faced severe challenges since the age of 6 months due to frequent seizures and high fever. The condition developed into cerebral palsy, causing paralysis in both legs, intellectual disability, and inability to speak.
Several interventions have been carried out by the Ministry of Social Affairs to help Ali, including those carried out on Wednesday (17/1). The Ministry of Social Affairs and Sekayu Regional Hospital conducted a comprehensive assessment and medical examination. The doctor who examined Ali, Dr. Nursaenah, Sp. N, from the Neurology Clinic of Sekayu RSUD, stated that Ali needed seizure medication for 3 years.
"Ali has cerebral palsy, resulting in paralysis and limited speech. Treatment and care efforts must continue to improve his quality of life," said Nursaenah.
Despite being recommended for therapy at Sentra Budi Perkasa Palembang, the family chose to do routine control and therapy at Sekayu Regional Hospital, which is closer. Head of Sentra, Gini Toponindro, said the Ministry of Social Affairs has provided some assistance, including facilitating transportation for treatment.
"We help with accommodation to go to the hospital, besides, there is other assistance such as daily basic needs and entrepreneurship," said Gini.
ATENSI assistance is provided in the form of nutrition and hygiene kits. Meanwhile, entrepreneurship assistance in the form of food and snack stalls was given to Ali's biological mother, Fatimah. Gini said entrepreneurship assistance to support the daily economy.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Social Affairs will continue to monitor the medical process according to the observation schedule, monitor further medical examinations at Sekayu Regional Hospital, and monitor the development of Mrs. Fatimah's stall business.
