MEDAN (May 2nd, 2024) – The Commission VIII of the House of Representatives of Republic of Indonesia together with Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) through Bahagia Sentra in Medan held Recess Work Visit to North Sumatera Province in Session Period IV of Session Year 2023 – 2024 in Bahagia Center in Medan. The event was held to monitor the distribution of social assistance in Medan City, North Sumatera.

The Head of Commission VII of the House of Representatives, H. Marwan Dasopang, stated in his speech that Commission VIII gave full support together with the government to accelerate the diminishing of the poverty rate in Medan City. “We hope that 88,000 poverty date can be reduced by using the capital approach, and PENA program can be enlarged,” he said.

Representing MoSA, the Director of Rehabilitation of Disaster Victims and Emergency Rachmat Koesnadi explained that “Through the social assistance, we hope that the beneficiaries can obtain their rights, so that MoSA contribution in alleviating poverty is enjoyed by all levels of Indonesian society, especially in North Sumatera’s regency,” he said.

Specific work visit of the Commission VIII of the House of Representatives was continued by the distribution of social assistance for Medan City in North Sumatera Province worth IDR 154,196,339,814 including ATENSI assistance for 35 elders (clothing, nutrition, and basic foods assistance) worth IDR 52,500,000, Economic Production Business Assistance for 5 beneficiaries worth IDR 25,000,000, Medan City Family Hope Program (PKH): Phase I and January – February 2024 Period for 50,222 beneficiaries worth IDR 35,480,157,391, and Phase II March – April 2024 Period for 47,932 beneficiaries worth IDR 33,914,882,423, worth IDR 69,395,039,814 and basic food assistance for Phase I to IV for 210,454 beneficiaries worth IDR 84,723,800,000.

Musimin (75), a beneficiary, said “I am so glad to receive a wheelchair and basic food assistance. I’m grateful to the government. I hope there will be more events like this for the elderly like me.”

The vice chairman of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives Marwan Dasopang, the Head of Medan City Social Office Khoiruddin, the Secretariate Team and the Experts Team of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives, representative of MoSA and other invitees were also present at the event.
