JAKARTA ( July 17th, 2024) – After a long struggle for four months, Tarmizi, a 29-year-old young man, succeeded in actualizing his dream which seemed to be impossible previously. Wearing a black t-shirt and matching pants, he welcomed every customer in one of the upper-class clothes retailers in Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta.

Unexpectedly, Tarmizi has proven that he could compete and did his daily tasks as a shopkeeper, despite having a speech disability.

Tarmizi’s journey to his current position was not easy. After six months of intensive training at Mulya Jaya Center in Jakarta, he went through various tests to get into the world which was rarely experienced by people having disabilities like him.

There was a saying that you will get what you’re fighting for. That was what Tarmizi felt. He received a salary of IDR 5,2 million per month.

Now he was ready to graduate from the social assistance program he had previously. “Thank you, Minister of Social Affairs. I’m ready to graduate,” Tarmizi said in sign language on Wednesday (17/7/2024).

Rizky Gandanegara, the manager of Mango shop where Tarmizi was working, said that he was satisfied with Tarmizi’s performance for the last four months. According to him, Tarmizi showed not only a high spirit but also a performance as good as his colleagues.

“During work, he shows a good performance and enthusiasm no less than his colleagues, despite all his disabilities,” he said.
