KEDIRI (17 March 2023) - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini visited the Simpang Lima Gumul Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Kediri. The Minister was present to supervise the cataract surgery and directly greet the patients.


Accompanied by Regent of Kediri Hanindhito Himawan Pramana and Chairperson of the Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation (YPP) SCTV INDOSIAR Abbas Yahya, the Minister greeted and had dialogue with patients. The Minister motivated them not to be afraid of undergoing surgery.


The Minister also entered the operating room accompanied by a team of doctors. On the other hand, to patients who have undergone surgery, she reminds them to keep their eyes bandaged. "Sampun ngantos kenging toya nggih (keep the water out of the wound, okay?)," said the Minister.


Before the media, the Minister explained that this cataract surgery was the Regent’s request to her. The Regent met the Minister in Jakarta and stated that there was a need for cataract surgery for the people of Kediri Regency.


"However there was no budget for such surgery in the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA). So it is necessary to partner with other parties. Then YPP helped us," said the Minister.


Cataract sufferers need to get treatment immediately. "If not, it could progress to the stage of blindness," said the Minister.


On this occasion, MoSA and YPP helped with collaborative operating costs of IDR 423,775,000 for 253 people. MoSA also handed over Social Rehabilitation Assistance (AENSI) from the Integrated Center of Prof. Dr Soeharso in the form of basic needs worth IDR 120,554,500.


The Regent of Kediri expressed his gratitude for the Social Minister's willingness to help cataract sufferers and was present in Kediri Regency. "Previously I did meet the Minister to submit the request. Thank God I got help. Thank you also to YPP for supporting this activity," he said.


Cataract surgery is one of the MoSA’s efforts to help poor people from the threat of blindness. Cataract sufferers in Indonesia are quite high. Therefore, the Minister expressed her appreciation to all parties who helped poor people to undergo cataract surgery.
