JAKARTA (17 June 2024) – The Ministry of Social Affairs, in collaboration with Tata Rupa, Tab Space, and Kerjabilitas, held Photography Training, Graphic Design, and Career Assessment for People with Hearing and Speech Disabilities on 13-15 June 2024 in Sentra Mulya Jaya Jakarta.
This collaboration offers new hope to the persons with hearing and speech disabilities for a brighter future through skills and equitable opportunities in the workplace. As conveyed by Tetti, Lead Facilitator at Kerjabilitas. "We want to dispel the stigma that persons with disabilities may only work as masseuses and laundry workers. This is where we aim to demonstrate that disabled persons can work in a large setting. This training is a means for us to break them out of this habit and teach them that there are different occupations available to them," she explained.
Previously, on the first and second days of the training, assisted by Tata Rupa and Tab Space, the participants were given the opportunity to learn and improve their photography and graphic design skills. One of the practices is to create a portfolio to explore and articulate the experiences they have had, so they can get to know and understand themselves better.
The training was concluded with a presentation on career assessment led by Kerjabilitas. Participants learned how to create a portfolio, and curriculum vitae, practice interviews, and identify appropriate career opportunities. Participants are expected to feel more confident about joining the workforce after completing this session.
Tari (14), one of the training participants, expressed her happiness and enthusiasm for participating in this training. "I am delighted to be participating in this training. Hopefully, it will be useful for myself and my disabled friends, allowing us to be more creative when designing. "The hope is that we can get a job sooner," Tari explained through a sign language interpreter.
34 persons with hearing and speech disabilities attended the three-day session. They are from three centers: the Pangudi Luhur Integrated Center in Bekasi, the Mulya Jaya Center in Jakarta, and the Handayani Center in Jakarta.
