TABANAN (9 May 2024) – The strong determination and hard work of Made Suliati (38) from Perean Tengah Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan Regency, Bali has paid off. This woman, who previously lived in poverty and received Family Hope Program (PKH) assistance, has since become a successful entrepreneur of canang, or offerings traditionally utilized by Hindus in Bali.
Since 2010, this mother of two children has been selling canang from her house, earning between IDR 30,000 and IDR 50,000 per day. Made Suliati received PKH assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs in 2017. Not wishing to stay in poverty, Made Suliati set aside some of the money she received from PKH to invest in her canang business.
Her determination and efforts began to bear fruit. Along with the additional capital, Made Suliati's business continues to develop, as does the number of clients. The profits are also increasing. The turnover is now between IDR 600,000 and IDR 700,000 per day, with earnings ranging from IDR 300,000 to IDR 400,000. Made Suliati presently employs four people to produce approximately 2,000 canang each day. She also began to grow her business by renting a stall in Jimbaran, Bali.
From the results of her business, Made Suliati was able to rebuild her home and purchase a used car to carry her canang. "Thanks to PKH assistance, my business was able to develop and help other people by making them employees," said Made.
Made Suliati opted to stop receiving PKH support in 2023, believing that her economic situation had improved. "Now I feel capable; the earnings from selling canang will cover my daily expenses. So I opted out of PKH assistance. The PKH funding can be utilized to assist others in need," remarked Made, grateful for the past PKH assistance she received.
