SUMEDANG (January 10, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs acted quickly to help the landslide victims in the Cihanjuang Village area, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency, West Java Province.

Synergizing with other disaster management elements, the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Disaster Voluntary Workers (Tagana) moved together to evacuate landslide victims shortly after the disaster occurred on Saturday (9/1). As is known, landslides occurred twice, namely at 16.00, and another landslide occurred again around 19.30 WIB.

The Ministry of Social Affairs through the Directorate of Social Protection for Victims of Natural Disasters (PSKBA) has taken four essential steps. "Since the disaster occurred, we through Tagana have coordinated with the Social Office in the areas affected by the landslide regarding handling activities and observing the current situation," said PSKBA Director Syafii Nasution, in Sumedang (10/10).

The next step is the deployment of Tagana and elements of the Disaster Preparedness Village (KSB) to collect data on victims, and evacuate victims to safe places, especially for vulnerable groups consisting of the elderly, children, people with disabilities, and other special groups.

"We also carry out regular distribution of logistics and rice to fulfill the basic needs of flood victims originating from the West Java Province Social Service Warehouse," he said. PSKBA Directorate also activated public kitchen service and psychosocial support services based at Cipateuag Elementary School to prepare 500 pcs of packaged rice.

The total assistance that has been distributed for disaster management is IDR 1,053,703,150, consisting the Emergency Response Logistics Assistance of IDR 888,671,350; 3,000 Regular Rice with a value of IDR 31,800,000; and Heir compensation for 11 people with an index of IDR 15 million/heir of IDR 165,000,000.

The Ministry of Social Affairs' logistical assistance consists of 10 multipurpose family tents; 150 veld bed units; 1,200 mattress sheets; 600 mattresses; and blankets of 1,000 sheets.

The landslide disaster occurred in Cihanjuang Village, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency, West Java Province, on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 15.30 WIB and 19.00 WIB. Landslides occurred due to rain with high intensity and duration long enough to cause a 30-meter-high cliff to cover 18 houses of residents and officers who were carrying out the evacuation process in the field.

Citing data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), 11 people have died.
