TANA TORAJA (April 17th, 2024) – Responding to the landslide disaster in two locations in Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi, last Saturday (13/4), the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) set up public kitchen to meet the needs of the refugees since Sunday (14/4). The public kitchen produced 1,200 packages of rice every day divided into three distributions.
Apart from establishing public kitchen, MoSA also provided logistical assistance in the form of folding mattresses, blankets, children's food, family kits and family tents to the refugees.
As of Tuesday (16/4) afternoon, it was recorded that 104 people stayed at their closest relatives’ houses. They refused to return to their houses since they were afraid of further landslides.
MoSA prepared 2 multi-purpose tents and 15 family tents. 1 multi-purpose tent unit was used to support public kitchen activities, such as natural material management activities. Meanwhile, 1 other unit was used for psychosocial services. Meanwhile, 15 units of family tents were recorded as supplies which could be used at any time considering the condition of the number of refugees and the threat of further landslides.
Previously, on Saturday (13/4) evening at 22.30 WITA, a landslide occurred in Manggau Village, Makale District and Lembang Randan Batu Village, South Makale District. This incident caused 20 people died, 16 of whom came from Manggau Village and 4 people from Lembang Randan Batu Village.
