JAKARTA (15 December 2023) – The Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) has built 591 social granaries spread throughout Indonesia from 2022 to the end of 2023. Social granaries are an effort to strengthen community resilience to disasters by providing logistical facilities and infrastructure close to disaster locations to support preparedness.
“Nearly the entire region has a total of 591 social granaries available. It can be supplied by the central government or residents," said the Programme and Reporting Coordinator of the Secretariat of the MoSA’s Directorate General of Social Protection, Andriana Pudjalaksana, when presenting the 2023 Performance Achievement and the 2024 Work Plan at the General Directorate of Protection and Social Security at the MoSA’s Office on Thursday (14/12).
446 social granaries were built in 2022, and 145 social granaries were built in 2023. The social granaries were created in line with the establishment of the Disaster Preparedness Village. The aim is to make it easier for residents to reach assistance quickly so that their basic needs are met in case of disaster.
Andriana said the 2024 disaster management budget is IDR 537,597,067,000. This budget will cover both disaster mitigation and management. These include the establishment of Disaster Preparedness Villages and social granaries, disaster education for children, additional equipment, and logistics for preparedness.
Apart from social granaries, the Ministry of Social Affairs is also alerting logistics warehouses in the MoSA’s technical implementation units (centers) spread throughout Indonesia. "We have centers that function to provide multiple services, including disaster management," said Andriana.
On the same occasion, it was also discussed the realization of the Family Hope Program (PKH), which has achieved a success rate of 98%, and the Integrated Welfare Houses (RST), which have been built for 3,886 beneficiary families.
