PADANG (May 13, 2024) - The Ministry of Social Affairs has distributed logistical assistance to victims of the cold lava flash flood disaster in West Sumatra. The assistance was distributed on Sunday (12/5) from the Logistics Warehouse at the Social Welfare Education and Training Center (BBPPKS) in Padang.
Head of BBPPKS Padang, Serimika Br. Karo, said the assistance sent was in the form of logistics and had arrived at the location. “The assistance arrived in Agam Regency on Monday at 3am, while to Tanah Datar Regency the assistance arrived at 05.30 WIB,” she said in Padang, Monday (5/13).
For Agam Regency, the Ministry of Social Affairs has sent logistics in the form of 450 packages of ready-to-eat food, 60 mattresses, 60 family kits, 200 packages of adult clothing, 280 children's food, 100 packages of children's clothing, 400 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes of sweet and sour chicken + eggs, 60 packages of kids’ ware, 100 sheets of roll tents, 1 unit of multipurpose tents, 7 units of portable family tents.
While in Tanah Datar Regency, the assistance that has been distributed is in the form of 450 packages of ready-to-eat food, 60 mattresses, 60 family kits, 200 packages of adult clothing, 320 children's food, 100 packages of children's clothing, 400 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes of sweet and sour chicken + eggs, 60 packages of kids’ ware, 100 sheets of rolling tents, 1 unit of multipurpose tents, 7 units of portable family tents. Furthermore, aid was also sent from the Inten Soeweno Integrated Center Logistics Warehouse in Cibinong Bogor to support the victims of flash floods in Padang Panjang Regency. The aid moved from Cibinong at 23.00 WIB and is expected to arrive Monday night.
Flash floods of cold lava hit the West Sumatra region on Saturday night, May 11, 2024. This incident was triggered by high-intensity rain in the upstream area of Mount Marapi. The cold lava flood affected four regencies: Agam Regency, Tanah Datar Regency, Padang Panjang Regency, and Padang Pariaman Regency.
Until Sunday, May 12, 2024, at 21.00 WIB, the total number of death victims from this disaster reached 37 people. A total of 35 bodies were successfully identified with details in Agam Regency 19 people, Tanah Datar Regency 9 people, Padang Panjang Regency 2 people, Padang Pariaman Regency 7 people. Meanwhile, 2 other bodies are still being identified. Meanwhile, until Sunday night, May 12, 2024, the number of people reported missing was 17 people. A total of 14 people are missing from Tanah Datar Regency and 3 others from Agam Regency.
