GARUT (September 19, 2024) – The 5.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Bandung Regency on Wednesday (18/9) also impacted areas in Garut, West Java. In response, the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA), through the Bandung Social Welfare Education and Training Center (BBPPKS), swiftly assisted earthquake survivors in Garut by distributing logistics and ready-to-eat meals.
Masriani Mansyur, Acting Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Affected People (PSKBA), stated that information from the MoSA team indicated that the situation in Garut was less severe than in Bandung Regency. Due to the earthquake's aftermath, 33 residents in Garut relocated to relatives' homes.
“In Garut, we did not establish public kitchens since many residents have taken refuge with their relatives and can still meet their basic needs independently,” she said in Garut on Thursday (19/9).
However, MoSA has provided aid, including ten portable family tents, five family tents, 20 kitchen equipment sets, 60 rolling tents, 100 blankets, 100 adult clothing packages, and 50 children’s clothing packages.
Masriani stated that MoSA, along with Tagana and the local Social Office, is now monitoring the condition of earthquake-affected residents.
