PASURUAN (7 March 2023) - Following up on the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, Director General of Social Protection and Security Robben Rico visited the locations of floods and landslides in Pasuruan Regency. The Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) handed over logistical assistance and conducted an assessment.
"We distributed assistance from the Directorate of Social Protection for Victims of Natural Disasters (PSKBA) and from the Warehouse of the Integrated Center "Prof. Dr. Soeharso" in Surakarta. Hopefully, this assistance will fulfill some of the needs of the affected communities," said Robben on Monday (6/3).
Robben was present to personally assess the disaster areas in Pesanggrahan Hamlet and Magersari Hamlet, Pecalukan Village, Prigen District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. Robben presented to ensure the assistance was well received by the community.
MoSA through the Disaster Voluntary Worker (Tagana) has given so much help since the disaster occurred. Tagana has coordinated with the local Social Offices for the assessment, namely to record basic needs and the number of residents in evacuation sites.
Tagana also evacuated victims to a safe place, especially for vulnerable groups (elderly, children, persons with disabilities, and other special groups). Tagana helped carry out logistical distribution to meet the basic needs of the victims.
If necessary, Tagana helps public kitchen services and Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) to meet the basic needs of survivors in evacuation sites, especially children.
Previously, the flood in Pasuruan was caused by heavy rain hitting the area on Saturday (4/3) afternoon. Not only roads but several inns, villas, and residents' houses were also inundated with mud floods. The activities of the residents were also hindered.
The high-intensity rain on Saturday in the Mount Welirang area caused a stream of water mixed with mud from the top of the mountain hit residents' houses. It was recorded that there were 27 households affected by the incident.
PSKBA Directorate of MoSA distributed assistance in the form of 150 packages of ready-to-eat food, 80 packs of children's food, 100 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes, a pack of ready-to-eat spices, 10 packages of kids' wear, 20 sheets of blankets, 30 sheets of rolled up tents, 8 packages of family kitchen equipment, 20 sheets of folding mattresses, 1 multipurpose tent and 100 food packages. The assistance was sent from the Warehouse of the Integrated Center "Prof Dr. Soeharso'' in Surakarta and distributed on Sunday (5/3).
Tagana is currently conducting an initial assessment regarding the impact of the disaster and the urgent needs needed, as well as evacuating the affected families to a safer location.
