145 PMI from Malaysia Arrive in Indonesia
BANTEN
(June 24, 2021) - The protection of
every citizen is guaranteed by the state, not least for citizens who are
abroad, namely Indonesian migrant workers.
A total of 145 Indonesian Migrant Workers
(PMI) who were deported from Malaysia arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport at
14.00 local time. All PMI are vulnerable groups including PMI with toddlers,
the elderly, and people living with HIV and suffering from skin diseases.
The efforts to protect the 145 PMIs are a form
of government collaboration including Deputy IV of the Coordinating Ministry
for Human Development and Culture, the Director General of Social
Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Directorate General of
Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities (PWNI &
BHI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Indonesian Migrant Workers
Protection Agency (BP2MI), Angkasa Pura, Port Health Office, Directorate
General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Ministry of Health and Health
Protocol Supervisor TNI - POLRI.
Furthermore, following the applicable
health protocol, all PMI will undergo quarantine at Wisma Atlet Pademangan in
towers 9 and 10 for 5 days. Social Workers and Social Counselors from the
Ministry of Social Affairs will conduct an assessment of the 145 PMIs before
being repatriated to their areas of origin.
"As a form of state presence, we are here
to welcome citizens who should be protected, but there is still a personal
responsibility. Where the earth is stepped on, there the sky is upheld. Of
course we have to obey the rules where we are," said Director General of
PWNI and BHI, Judha Nugraha when giving a speech to 145 PMI.
"The brothers present are a small part of
a total of 7,200 PMIs with problems from Malaysia. We saw that there was a
mother with a toddler. When a family member agreed to facilitate the return of
PMI who was in the Immigration Detention Center, there was no response from the
Malaysian Immigration Department. Rarely do they have their jewelry
confiscated by irresponsible persons. BP2MI has prepared human resources to
handle the return of troubled PMIs, "said the Head of BP2MI, Benny Rhamdani.
At the end of welcoming the return of 145
troubled PMIs from Malaysia, the Government expressed its appreciation and
motivation to all PMIs.
