CIREBON (30 May 2020) - The distribution of acceleration of social assistance (bansos) from the government, through the Ministry of Social Affairs is aimed to the elderly, fishermen, victims of human trafficking in Cirebon Regency, Cirebon City, and Indramayu.

Residents who are directly affected by COVID-19 and have not received assistance from the government, province and district/city, are entitled to receive Cash Social Assistance (BST).

"BST is given to residents who are directly affected by COVID-19 and have not received social assistance from anywhere, be it the central, provincial and district/city governments," said Director General of Social Rehabilitation Harry Hikmat while reviewing the distribution of BST in Plumbon District, Cirebon Regency, Saturday (30/5/2020).

The distribution of BST, said Harry, at the Indonesian Post office was in accordance with health protocols, by maintaining distance, providing a place for washing hands and hand sanitizers, and wearing masks.

"The distribution has followed the standard health protocols, as recommended by the government. The recipient goes through three stages of checking to ensure that residents who receive BST are really on target," said Harry.

On the way from Indramayu to Cirebon, the group stopped by a fishing village and met with a former Beneficiary (PM) from Mulya Jaya, Jakarta.

"Alhamdulillah, I was an alumni from Mulya Jaya Jakarta and is currently developing businesses, such as a stall business, selling gas and mineral water gallons, as well as selling retail gasoline (mini petrol stations)," said Litawati, 33, with a smile.

The Director General of Social Rehabilitation was very happy and gave appreciation as well as praise for Lita, who is now successful and able to live independently with a large income every day.

"How much for a day?" asked Harry. "Alhamdulillah, 5 jerry cans of gasoline can be sold with a net profit of Rp100.000,. With the addition of food, the net profit is estimated to be Rp200.000 to Rp. 300.000 in a day," said Lita.

Meanwhile, at the Bangkir Port (Bapel) Gold Social Welfare Institution (LKS), Rambat Kulon Village RT 28 / RW 04, Behind Bangkir Market, Lohbener District, Indramayu Regency, the Director General for Social Rehabilitation greets social assistance recipients, the Victims of Human Trafficking (KPO) and elderlies.

"There are our sisters and brothers who are less fortunate and make the wrong choice with the aim of making ends meet, so they have to stop by at Jakarta Mulya Jaya Center," said Harry.

As many as 40 basic food assistance packages were distributed to the beneficiaries assisted by the Bapelgold LKS and 15 basic food assistance packages from the President for the former beneficiaries of Mulya Jaya Center and were symbolically received by the head of the Bapelgold LKS, Nurkasan.

The Bekasi Budhi Dharma Social Rehabilitation Center for the elderly provided social assistance totaling 3,038 packages of basic necessities for the elderly in three provinces, namely West Java, Banten, and Lampung through LKS.

In addition, Mulya Jaya Center distributes social assistance for independent beneficiaries who are assisted by LKS Bapelgold who have participated in self-reliance activities, namely mental spiritual therapy, psychosocial therapy, and skills.

"Independence Social Assistance is given to 10 beneficiaries, each received Rp5 million with a total of Rp50 million, which is used for initial capital to open businesses such as food stalls, traditional cakes, and sewing. Previously they were verified through data, assessment, requirements and deemed worthy of assistance," said the Head of the  "Mulya Jaya" Center, Juena Sitepu, in her report.

During the visit, the Director General of Social Rehabilitation did not come alone but was accompanied by the Director of Social Rehabilitation for the Elderly (RS LU), Andi Hanindito; Social Rehabilitation for Persons with Social Deviance Issues and Victims of Human Trafficking (RS TSKPO), Waskito Budi Kusumo; and the Head of General Affairs, Herman Koswara.

Also, the Head of the Jakarta Watunas Mulya Jaya Center, Juena Sitepu; Director of the Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI), Rudiyanto; BKI Manager; BKI General Division Manager; as well as the Head of Budi Dharma Center, Pujianto.

The government cannot work alone to solve social problems as they need the role of the business world, one of which is from the state-owned company, the Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI).

"We, from BUMN-BKI, have a commitment to work together with the Ministry of Social Affairs to reduce the impact of COVID-19, one of which is for fishermen and other parties in need through CSR funds," said BKI Managing Director, Rudiyanto.

An elderly, Grandma Darmi (84, years old), who received the basic food assistance, admitted that she was happy to receive assistance, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic because she could not go anywhere else.

"Yes, thanks to the government for providing assistance to me, hopefully it will be useful and a blessing," said Darmi, softly in Javanese.

Mrs. Atim, 35, a resident of Haur Geulis, Indramayu and a former victim of human trafficking, also acknowledges the same thing. She is grateful that the help she received means helping her family's needs.

"Obviously, I am very happy. I received the basic food assistance from the Director General because it could help meet the needs of my family. Once again, thank you," said Atim.
