EAST FLORES (November 8, 2024) - Mount Ile Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted and spewed hot lava, sand, and rocks into residential areas on Monday (04/11). The disaster damaged schools and homes. A total of 10 people died and 2,472 people were displaced due to the eruption. Residents evacuate in 3 locations, namely Konga Village, Bokang Village, and Lewolaga.

The spread of volcanic ash from Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki's eruption impacted the activities and health of residents, especially survivors who stayed outdoors without protection, as the various particles in volcanic eruptions can endanger lives.

Responding to this condition, the Ministry of Social Affairs through Disaster Response Volunteers (Tagana) and Pioneers of Peace (Pelopor Perdamaian) distributed masks and milk to survivors at evacuation posts to support health services in evacuation from the risk of Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) due to exposure to volcanic dust.

Until now, the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is still occurring and emitting hot clouds like mushrooms on the fifth day, Friday (11/8/2024). The eruption on the fifth day occurred at 13.55 WITA and made several villages in the Wulanggitang and Ile Bura Districts, East Flores Regency, pitch black due to volcanic ash rain.
