BEKASI (6 February 2021) - To strengthen the implementation of Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) for the elderly, the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Bekasi “Budhi Dharma” Elderly Center implements sweet potato planting, hydroponics (aquaponics), making composter vats with employees and beneficiaries (PM) utilizes a land area of ​​280.63 meters as Elderly Agro-tourism.

Following up on the direction of the Director of Social Rehabilitation for the Elderly, Andi Hanindito, that one form of development of the elderly area is developing agro-tourism for the elderly throughout Indonesia, one of which is the Elderly Center "Budhi Dharma Bekasi.

The Innovation of the Bekasi “Budhi Dharma” Elderly Center in the form of Agro-tourism development for the elderly with the concept of opening green open spaces to become elderly friendly areas are one of the strategies to create productive activities to create independent, healthy, and active PM at the “Budhi Dharma” Bekasi Elderly Center.

Elderly agro-tourism is the development of a plantation land owned by the Bekasi “Budhi Dharma” Center for the Elderly which has been used as a livelihood therapy for PM by planting citrus trees, cassava, sweet potatoes, and catfish farming. The availability of idle land that has not been fully utilized, then in 2021 development efforts will be made with the concept of elderly agro-tourism.

Head of the Elderly Center "Budhi Dharma, Pujiyanto said that Budhi Dharma's agro-tourism carries the concept of land use for productive crops such as sweet potatoes, cassava, oranges, chilies, aquaponics, gardens with seating for the elderly."


Furthermore, Pujiyanto instructed all his staff to assist beneficiaries in utilizing the existing land to plant productive plants as a form of psychosocial therapy and to create productive activities for the beneficiaries.


The beneficiary, Anwar, 71 years old, expressed his interest in planting white kale to fill his time and will take care of it until harvest.


Productive plants such as sweet potatoes, cassava, oranges, chilies, medicinal plants can be used by PM as a strategy for the elderly according to their physical use of their spare time while at the Budhi Dharma Bekasi Elderly Center.


Aquaponics is a modern agricultural system by combining hydroponic cultivation methods with aquaculture with cultivation methods without soil media in hydroponics with fish farming techniques developed with aquaculture techniques. Fish and plants are nurtured together with a symbiotic system of mutualism.


Meanwhile, a garden with seating and placement of a colorful composter with a combination of agro-tourism concepts is expected to be able to make a place for interaction between the elderly to eliminate boredom while in the guest house, the application of psychosocial therapy for social workers by sharing stories, handling problems, and sharing experiences together while seeing the beauty of the elderly agro-tourism area.

The combination of classical and modern agricultural land, fisheries, parks, and tourist spots and relaxation for the elderly combined in the concept of agro-tourism for the elderly as an elderly-friendly area is expected to be able to support the fulfillment of elderly rights so that residential-based for the elderly at the Bekasi “Budhi Dharma” Elderly Center can be independent, healthy, active, and productive.
