SUMEDANG (January 14, 2021) – Heavy rain that occurred on Saturday (9/1/2021) in Sumedang Regency caused a landslide in Cihanjuang Village, Cimanggung District and caused 14 houses to be buried by landslides.

The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs through the Bekasi "Budhi Dharma" Elderly Center responded to the landslide by deploying 3 Case Response Team officers to carry out assessments for the elderly affected by the disaster and provide Psychosocial Support Services (LDP).

The “Budhi Dharma” team, represented by the Social Worker Coordinator, Windi Sihombing, together with social workers arrived at the evacuation site for landslide victims at SDN Cipareuag, Sukadana Village, Cimanggung District, Sumedang (Monday, 12/01/21) and coordinated with the Sumedang Regency Social Service.

Head of the Social Protection and Security Division of the Sumedang Regency Social Office, Komar said that the initial evacuation posts were at 10 location points, but were reduced to 6 location points. Evacuees prefer to be independent in their families' homes, even if they sleep on the terrace of the house.

"The landslide disaster caused 14 houses to be affected by the landslide, 16 people died and 24 people are missing so far, so we have to work together in the search for landslide victims," said Komar.

Together with the local assistant from the Social Office of Sumedang Regency, Asep, the Case Response Team "Budhi Dharma" visited Command Post 1 at SMAN 1 Cimanggung to identify data on elderly people affected by landslides. It was recorded that there were 19 elderly spread across 6 refugee posts based on West Java Quick Response data.

Grandpa Manuh, one of the victims of the landslide told the story of the landslide incident while crying.

"My heart hurts when I remember what happened yesterday, I immediately ran away by myself. The incident happened so fast and suddenly there was a landslide that afternoon," said Manuh.

"Please hold on there, Grandpa, all calamities that happened are fate," said Windi calming Grandpa Manuh who looked traumatized. "We also feel the sadness that Grandpa is feeling, but Grandpa must be strong, courageous and return to do activities after this disaster. Keep the spirit and be patient," added Windi.

Based on the results of observations and interviews conducted by the "Budhi Dharma" Case Response Team specifically for the elderly who were affected by the landslide, the officers met 12 elderly people who were spread out at the evacuation post of SMAN 1 Cimanggung, Al-Hidayah TPA Command Post, SBG Housing, RW 6 and Bojong Kondang Village.
