"Budi Luhur" Disability Center Provides LDP for Flood Victims in East Sumba
EAST SUMBA (April 15, 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through the "Budi Luhur" Disability Center in Banjarbaru is implementing the Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) program through Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) for victims of flash floods in East Sumba Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur.
In accordance with the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tri Rismaharini who invited all parties to move quickly in the context of recovering disaster survivors in Indonesia. The Minister of Social Affairs also said that handling was not only limited to providing social assistance, but also through providing Psychosocial Support Services (LDP) and trauma healing to victims affected by the disaster.
Upon arrival at the Location of the "Budi Luhur" Disability Center Team immediately coordinated with the East Sumba Regency Social Office to obtain data on flood survivors in East Sumba Regency. The "Budi Luhur" Disability Center Banjarbaru team collaborated with the "Abiyoso" Braille Literacy Center Cimahi, the "Wirajaya" Disability Center Makassar, and the "Wyata Guna" Disability Center Bandung to coordinate the distribution of tasks and locations for providing Psychosocial Support Services.
The Head of the East Sumba Regency Social Service, Oktavianus, really appreciates the LDP activities carried out by the "Budi Luhur" Disability Center for the people of East Sumba who have experienced flash floods. "Thank you to the Ministry of Social Affairs and the "Budi Luhur" Disability Center for your concern and assistance to our brothers and sisters who have gone through this disaster," said Oktavianus.
The LDP team at the "Budi Luhur" Disability Center consists of 4 professional psychologists, nurses, and social workers. The LDP team carried out an assessment and medical examination of flash flood victims in Kambaniru Village, Kambera District, East Sumba Regency.
Ignatius (58 years), a resident of Kambaniru Village and a flash flood survivor who received psychosocial support services and health checks from the "Budi Luhur" Disability Center, felt very happy and grateful because none of his family was a victim of the flood disaster, even though their rice fields and livestock were lost in the flash floods. "I accept this situation with gratitude, let the property be a victim, the important thing is we are still given safety," said Ignatius.
Indri Tiara Sari, Psychologist at the Budi Luhur Disability Center, said the LDP team carried out trauma healing by building self-confidence, sharing experiences, and psychosocial support aimed at reducing feelings of trauma, restoring zest for life and returning to normal activities for flood survivors. "What we do is remove the trauma from the incident and give encouragement to them," said Indri.
In addition, the LDP Team for the "Budi Luhur" Disability Center Banjarbaru also provided ATENSI support by fulfilling basic needs e.g 30 basic food packages in Kambaniru Village, Kambera District which were provided through the Wali Ati Foundation (Yasalti).
