JAKARTA (June 26, 2021) - The Director General of Social Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Harry Hikmat was a speaker at the Webinar “Emergency Building Relationships: Learning to Build Good Relationships and Manage Relationships Since Being Students”. In his presentation, Harry explained the importance of building relationships starting from social media to honing intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.

This webinar, which was organized by students of the Communication Department at Al-Azhar University Indonesia (UAI), aims to provide knowledge on how to make good friends and develop relationships in the world of work.

Departing from the population analysis in Indonesia according to the 2020 Population Census data that Indonesia is dominated by 25.87% of the Millennial Generation population (the generation born in 1981-1994) and 27.94% Gen Z (the generation born in 1997-2012), this gives influence on the future progress of the Indonesian nation. "We have great hopes for the Millennial Generation and Gen Z, which soon will replace leadership in various fields of work. For that it is important for all of us to build relationships," said Harry.

Harry said that the media that can build relationships consist of direct communication, through social media intermediaries and using telecommunications media. In the Covid-19 Pandemic situation, the effective media for establishing relationships, working and studying are social media and telecommunications.

The same thing was conveyed by a speaker who is one of the Communication Lecturers at UAI, Destriana.

"So, to build relationships during the pandemic and technology era, that is by entering new communities, virtual meet ups, so that you can make new friends and win their hearts," said Destriana

Destriana also revealed that in building relationships, it is necessary to identify the target environment first. Starting from observing the target, getting inspired points to be discussed with the target, and don't underestimate the details in a relationship.

Furthermore, Harry said that friendship can be the beginning of building a relationship. Friendship can move to more serious things, such as friendship, romance, marriage, and even negative things that need to be considered are toxic friendships, namely friendships that produce negative influences that cause murder and hostility.

In building relationships, Harry continued, there is something to do with intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. Intrapersonal ability is a person's skill to organize himself for optimal work development, while interpersonal ability is a person's skills in relationships with others in optimal work development.

Being a good listener is also important in building relationships, not dominating a conversation. In addition, gestures are also a supporting factor in building relationships.

No less important, Harry mentioned that there are 10 soft skills in building relationships, namely work ethics, goal-oriented and teamwork, excellent communication, flexibility and adaptability, positive thinking, confidence, works well under pressure, self-motivated, leadership, and reliable.

Harry hopes that these soft skills can be applied by millennials and gen Z in the world of work. Strong self-motivation can also give birth to people with leadership qualities.

This webinar was attended by 129 participants who are students from various universities in Indonesia and workers in the government and private sectors.
