Ciwitan Veil and Decoupage Bag of "Ciungwanara" Disability Center Enliven the National Coordination of Rights of Persons with Disabilities
JAKARTA (15 April 2021) - The Beneficiaries (PM) of
the Ciungwanara Disability Center which is one of the Technical Implementation
Units of the Ministry of Social Affairs participated in enlivening the
exhibition at the Meeting of the National Coordination Team to Respect the
Protection and Fulfillment of Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Submission
of Presidential Decrees about Satya
Lencana (Badge of Loyalty) of Independence Pioneer.
This exhibition was
attended by 2 Social Centers, namely the Center for Disability Kartini
Temanggung which displayed Splash Batik
and Pastries made by the beneficiaries, and the Ciungwanara Bogor Disability
Center which displayed Hijab (Veil) Ciwitan and Decoupage Bags made by the
beneficiaries.
Hijab Ciwitan is a hijab
creation with the tie-dye method (a technique for dyeing the fabric by tying the
fabric before dyeing it). The PM in Ciungwanara took advantage of the business
potential that was booming among the community by using the pinch technique (in
the Sundanese Ciwitan language) to produce economical value products.
The Head of Center, Siti
Sari Rumayanti, also attended the exhibition. She encouraged the development
and marketing of Hijab Ciwitan.
"We continue to
develop Hijab Ciwitan in order to
keep up with current trends, with the use of contemporary color materials and
motifs, we hope that Hijab Ciwitan can
have public interest. We are doing this effort to hone PM's entrepreneurial
spirit and make this product a source of income for them, "said Sari.
Not only the hijab, the
Ciungwanara Disability Center’s booth also attracted the attention of invited
guests with its decoupage bag products.
Decoupage which comes
from French découper or means
cutting, is a craft to decorate objects that require pieces of material
(usually illustrated tissue paper) which are attached to the object and then
coated with varnish like a sticker, but are more durable.
Indah, a social worker
who is also the coordinator of the Ciungwanara ATENSI Creation Center,
explained that the objects that can be applied to decoupage vary, from bags,
clutches, wallets to cutting boards.
"The art of decoupage is an art that is quite easy to apply for persons with intellectual disabilities. The equipment used is quite simple, including glue, tissue paper, brushes and objects to be affixed," said Indah.
