PANDEGLANG (18 May 2021) - The Ministry of Social Affairs through Ciungwanara Center provides Psychosocial Support Services to the child with intellectual disability who is the victim of sexual immorality by 3 (three) men in Pandeglang, Banten.

Following the direction of the Director General of Social Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Affairs Harry Hikmat, Ciungwanara Center sent two officers to respond to cases in the form of psychosocial support services and assessment to the child with disability after the news about sexual abuse appeared in the mass media.

The team consisting of Social Workers and Occupational Therapists coordinates with the Head of the Pandeglang District Social Service, Nuriyah, the Head of Social Rehabilitation, Santosa Urip, and Tata Wijaya as the Head of Disability. Nuriyah explained that the incident that happened to the child who was also a person with disability had been handled by the Social Service with assistance and guarding the legal process for “SL” (not her real name).

"We would like to thank the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Ciungwanara Bogor Center for their attention and quick response to this case. We work together to handle it. We will continue to oversee it until the trial case is over so that the rights of persons with disabilities are maintained," said Nuriyah.

Nila Restu, Social Worker of the Ciungwanara Disability Center also conveyed the intent and purpose of the team's arrival. "Based on directions from the head of Ciungwanara Center, the purpose of our case response is to provide psychosocial support services to heal psychological wounds resulting from the rape incident she experienced. In addition, we will also conduct assessments to provide Social Rehabilitation Assistance Services (ATENSI)," said Nila.

The team then went straight to the Pandeglang Police to meet “SL” who was undergoing an examination by a police officer. Annisa, who is an Occupational Therapist at the Ciungwanara Center, then provides psychodynamic therapy to SL to explore her emotions and feelings.

"Although she looks fine and can smile cheerfully, it turns out that when her feelings are explored she has deep trauma and fear at the places where the incident occurred." SL "was able to reveal how, how many times and who the perpetrators were." SL "also showed expression of sadness when telling her mother who could not do anything when the bad thing happened to her," explained Annisa.

The social worker also then provides psychosocial support services to “SL” in the form of providing motivation and positive reinforcement to the victim's family.

"SL is motivated to be able to achieve her dream of becoming a painter. And I taught her that her body cannot be touched easily by other people and we planted it so that SL could report to her aunt or RT near her house if anyone did this to her. "It is known that the victim's mother is also a person with a hearing and intellectual disability, so she does not have the power to defend her child," said Nila as a social worker.

This heinous act has occurred dozens of times since March 2021. What is very sad is that the perpetrator is the closest person to the victim. They are the victim's father, uncle, and neighbor.

“I have been suspicious since SL suddenly cried when she met me when I asked her about the heinous behavior of her father, uncle, and neighbors and how they threatened to kill and beat SL. Hearing the story, I immediately reported the incident to the RT and police, ”said YM as SL's aunt.

The team then held a case discussion with parties from the Social Office of Pandeglang Regency and Companion for Persons with Disabilities, regarding the follow-up of ATENSI services for SL so that they do not become discouraged and can explore her talents to achieve independence both socially and financially.

The follow-up to the response to the SL case is that social workers will recommend residential-based ATENSI services for SL after the legal process is complete. This service is intended so that SL can slowly erase the trauma she has experienced and to explore and develop her potential.
